Welcome to the Neighborhood!
We are members of the Pinewood Lake Wildfire Action Group, and we’re here to answer questions you might have about living in the Wildfire-Urban Interface (known as the WUI and pronounced “woo-ee”)!

In addition to the resources in this packet, we have several ways to get local information:
Our Website
www.plwag.org
If that doesn’t work, go to https://pinewoodlakewag.wixsite.com/home
The website has links to information you’ll need in an emergency (on the Quick Links page), as well as blog posts with community updates and other important information.
This letter is on the website, so you can use the online version to navigate to the links mentioned below. Go to the Home page and scroll down to Featured Links.

Our Slack Group
The Slack group has a number of channels, including announcements, emergency communications, cooking, homesteading/gardening, and social.

To join, send an email to communications@plwag.org and request an invite.
Our Newsletter and Emails
We send out about two emails a month, with community information and notices of events, such as our slash-collecting days, and wildfire-prep/social gatherings.
Scroll down to the Subscribe box on the website home page to sign up.

Our Radio System
We have both Ham operators and GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) users here, forming a neighborhood network to communicate information, mainly during emergencies. The radios provide a way to help each other, even if the power goes out and cell service is unavailable.

GMRS radios are as easy to use as walkie-talkies, and they have a much larger range. To get a 10-year license, you simply fill out an FCC application online; no exam is required. The license costs $35 and covers everyone in your household.

We use our GMRS radios every Thursday evening at 7 p.m. during a community-wide Net, which is like a conference call, or a Zoom event without video. The Net allows us to practice talking on the radios, and make sure they are in working condition.
