As many of us know, living in the beautiful landscape of Larimer County comes with a shared responsibility: being prepared for wildfire.

Recent data from the U.S. Forest Service highlights just how critical this is—Larimer County faces a higher wildfire likelihood than 92% of counties nationwide. In response, Larimer County is currently updating its Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP), and they want to hear from us.

Why Does This Plan Matter to Our Neighborhood?

The CWPP isn't just a government document; it’s a roadmap for how our region handles wildfire preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery over the next five years. Here is why our participation is vital:

  • Grant Funding: Having an approved plan in place is often a requirement for our community to qualify for state and federal wildfire mitigation grants. These funds help pay for things like fuel reduction and safety projects.

  • A Unified Strategy: While this is a county-wide framework, it is designed to support more localized plans and provide a safety net for areas that don’t have their own specific protection plan yet.

  • Resilience: The 2025 update focuses on making the entire county more resilient before, during, and after a fire occurs.

How You Can Get Involved

The county is officially seeking public comment on the draft plan. This is our chance to ensure the priorities of residents are reflected in the final strategy.

  • Review the Plan: You can read the updated document and find the feedback form on the Larimer County Emergency Services website.

  • Deadline: The public comment period is open now and runs through Friday, February 13, 2026.

Take Action

Wildfire safety is most effective when a whole community is involved. Please take a few minutes this week to look over the plan and submit your thoughts.

Let’s work together to keep our neighborhood—and our county—safe and prepared.
