The Pinewood Lake Wildfire Action Group, in partnership with Loveland Fire Rescue Authority (LFRA), successfully hosted 2 Slash Drop-Off Days, Sunday April 6 & Sunday April 13.

15 neighbors participated, dropping off 34 truckloads of slash and 14 bags of yard waste. We want to thank all those who participated, especially the volunteers at the site and helped neighbors haul away slash.

Our goal is to do 2 Slash events a year, one in the Fall and Spring, so please make sure you are signed up for communications from the Pinewood Lake Wildfire Action Group. Click Subscribe

What happens next?

Sometime over the next couple of weeks the LFRA will bring in an Air Curtain Burner. This is a specialized piece of equipment used to efficiently and cleanly burn slash. It works by creating a high-velocity air curtain across a combustion chamber, trapping smoke particles and reburning them, which significantly reduces smoke and particulate matter emissions compared to traditional open burning.

Remember the last time on a hot day you walked into a store and you walked through a massive blast of air? That is effectively an Air Curtain, it divides interior and exterior air.

The Air Curtain Burner keeps all the burning particulates inside, efficiently burns slash and reduces pollution. Here is a video explanation:

What happens to all the burnt up material?

This is called Biochar, some call it "Black Gold." Biochar is a charcoal-like material created by heating organic waste in a controlled environment called pyrolysis. This process, which involves limited oxygen, transforms biomass into a stable, carbon-rich solid. Biochar is used as a soil amendment to improve plant health and sequester carbon, potentially mitigating climate change.

We hope you can join us for our next Slash Day. The number of truckloads allowed will be limited to what the LFRA can burn in 2 days, so be sure to sign up for notifications of future Slash Days Click Subscribe
