Please Don't Feed the Foxes!

🦊 KEEP OUR FOXES WILD & OUR NEIGHBORHOOD SAFE!

Please do not intentionally or unintentionally feed the foxes in our area. While it may seem like a kind gesture, feeding wild foxes creates serious risks for both the animals and our community.

⚠️ WHY FEEDING FOXES HARMS THEM

• Loss of Fear: Foxes quickly learn to associate humans with food, making them lose their natural wariness.

• Increased Danger: Overconfident foxes will approach people, cars, and homes, drastically increasing their risk of being hit by vehicles or targeted by pest control.

• Malnutrition: Processed human food lacks the essential nutrients foxes get from their natural diet of rodents and insects.

• Disease Transmission: Artificial feeding sites cause foxes to crowd together, accelerating the spread of fatal diseases like sarcoptic mange.

• Dependent Kits: Adult foxes will stop teaching their pups how to hunt, leaving the young generation unable to survive on their own.

🏡 WHY FEEDING FOXES HARMS US

• Pet Conflicts: Habituated foxes are much more likely to cross paths with, or accidentally injure, outdoor cats and small dogs.

• Property Nuisance: Attracting foxes means they are more likely to dig up gardens, den under residential porches, and cause property damage.

• Public Health Risks: Because foxes are rabies vector species, bringing large numbers of them into close, fearless contact with humans poses an unnecessary health risk to our neighborhood.
