Last year, the Pinewood Lake Wildfire Action Group asked the Larimer County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) if it was possible to investigate other possible evacuation routes for residents to use, in case we could not get out using County Road 18E. We are happy to share that an emergency evacuation route to the south has been approved. It is navigable by car or by a vehicle pulling a horse trailer, but ONLY if evacuees are directed there by the Sheriff's officers. This route crosses private property and cannot be used otherwise.
Here are the details from Sergeant Derek Rosenquist, the Wildfire Partners Program Coordinator for the Larimer County Sheriff's Office Emergency Services Unit:
Pinewood Lake Community,
As part of our ongoing review of emergency procedures, we have been assessing evacuation routes. Through this process, we identified a need for alternative egress options since routes are somewhat limited for residents along County Road 18E and within the Pinewood Lake community.
In collaboration with the community, LCSO Emergency Services, and the Loveland Fire Rescue Authority, we have established an alternate evacuation route to the south. This route passes through private property and will only be used if the primary evacuation route (CR18E) is not accessible. If the alternate route becomes necessary, emergency personnel will provide specific directions at the time of evacuation.
