What is a Neighborhood Buddy System for Emergencies?

The Buddy System is a way for neighbors to check on each other during an emergency situation.

What do Buddies do?

During an emergency, neighborhood buddies contact each other to make sure each person is aware of the emergency, and to see if anyone in the group needs help.

  • Contact methods: Phone calls, texts, emails, Pinewood Slack group, Pinewood GMRS radios, physical visit

  • Help that may be needed: medical assistance, pet/livestock evacuation, getting items for a buddy not at home

How do you set up a Buddy group?

  1. Choose at least two neighbors to form a group.

  2. Decide ahead of time how you will contact each other.

  3. Share information on access to homes, location of Go Bags, medical needs, pet needs, evacuation destinations. This brochure will help you share important details with your buddies:

What do you do if you cannot contact a buddy during an emergency?

Get yourself in a safe location, and contact the Larimer County Sheriff's Office. Do not try to stop first responders at the scene of the emergency.
