Messages from Local Energy Companies

Please contact the companies directly if you have any questions

Poudre Valley REA:

In response to Wednesday’s forecasted Red Flag Warning in the foothills, we have activated procedures to prioritize safety & reliability. This includes suspending all construction & routine maintenance within the high wind zone, strategically positioning additional crews for rapid response, & closely monitoring fire risk forecasts & weather conditions.”

“We will be moving to one-shot settings which makes the system more sensitive. Normally, our system tries to restore power automatically by reconnecting up to three times. With one-shot, the system shuts off & stays off until a crew checks the line in person. This reduces wildfire risk during high winds but can lead to longer restoral times.”

“While we don’t anticipate any planned outages, high winds can cause unexpected outages. We encourage all members particularly those who rely on medical devices to have a backup power source or an emergency plan in place to stay safe.”

Updates can be found on the Poudre Valley REA Facebook page.

Xcel Energy:

“Xcel Energy is currently considering public safety electrical power shutoffs due to high fire danger and strong winds in the Front Range of Colorado. This decision is aimed at protecting customers and communities from potential wildfires. The shutoff could affect several counties, including Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, and Denver, and may last several hours or even days. Xcel Energy has implemented Enhanced Powerline Safety Settings (EPSS) to enhance safety during such events. Customers are advised to prepare for possible outages and stay informed through Xcel Energy's communications.”
