On last weeks GMRS Net, neighbor Mike O. provided some great Fire Safety tips. Here is a summary of that conversation.
The greatest probability of any of us encountering fire near our homes comes from ignition sources within our homes.

Before anything else, make sure your egress pathways and doors are not cluttered or difficult to open—your ability to escape quickly is critical.
Have adequate fire extinguishers and fire extinguishing blankets readily available
Clean your wood stove chimney regularly
Clean your clothes dryer duct to prevent lint buildup
Beware of overloaded power outlet strips
Be cautious with cheaply made, high-wattage appliances (such as oil-filled room heaters) that have weak switches that “pop” when turned on or off
Project Idea: Share chimney and duct cleaning equipment within the neighborhood.
Trivia Challenge: What are the worst fire safety violations you’ve ever seen—away from your own home?
Bottom Line: Fire is stochastic.
