Properly maintained equipment is the backbone of effective wildfire mitigation. Whether you are clearing brush around your home or helping with a larger community project, knowing how to handle a chainsaw safely and efficiently is a critical skill.

As a pre-conference opportunity for the Colorado Wildland Fire Conference, a full-day, hands-on classroom session is coming to Fort Collins this April. This course is designed to take the guesswork out of operation and ensure you feel confident every time you pull the starter cord.

What You Will Learn

This isn't just a lecture; it's a "hands-on classroom" experience intended to give you a deep dive into the mechanics and safety protocols of one of your most powerful tools. The curriculum covers:

  • Safety Principles: The "golden rules" of chainsaw operation to prevent accidents.

  • Required PPE: A breakdown of the personal protective equipment you actually need (and how to wear it).

  • Chainsaw Features: Understanding the anatomy of your saw and what every lever and button does.

  • Proper Operation: Techniques for safe and effective cutting.

  • Basic Maintenance: How to keep your saw running in peak condition, from chain tension to air filters.

Why Attend?

Operating a chainsaw can be intimidating, but knowledge is the best way to manage that risk. By the end of this session, participants will have the practical knowledge needed to care for their equipment and operate it with a high degree of confidence. It’s an investment in your safety and the resilience of our local landscape.

Registration Note: To secure your spot, you will need to create an account and register through the conference portal. A huge thanks to Stihl for bringing this valuable training to our community!
